Avoid using toners that contain alcohol!  In the short term, alcohol can help to 'shrink' your pores, but at the cost of dehydrating your skin, depriving it of valuable skin lipids that help to maintain your moisture barrier.  In the long term, alcohol in your toner will noticeably dry the skin out, often resulting in an increase in sebum (oil) secretion, which then causes more skin imbalances, excess oiliness and breakouts.
